We’re wanting to build, and don’t know where to start as far as financing. We have our own land, and would like to know where to go for financing, and would also like to know if there are grants or anything available for building an energy efficient home.

There are no grants, you still have to pay for your own house, but if you get it certified after you are done there are some tax breaks.
Any bank will finance you, you simply need a construction loan. They will require a 25% down payment on total costs from you.

there should be. i grew up in california and i think that they have more rescources and motivation to help people convert theire homes to eco friendly homes. such things as solar power and the actual construction of the house (materials like cobb and adobe for better insulation) and even architectural details such as which direction your house faces in relation to the sun. go to the gov pages in the phone book and look up building and liscences. if they cant help you they can tell you who can.

To build your own house you most likely will need a construction loan. You need to contact a local lender for options available to you. Often there are Tax (credits) incentives, but no grants available depending upon the type of energy efficient improvements you make to your house and where you live. I suggest you check with your state housing department for details.
